Connections of Time and Space

Connections of Time and Space

Connections of Time and Space

by Dorthy Graden

Opening Reception: Saturday, July, 2025, 5 PM - 8 PM

Exhibition Duration: July - August, 2025

This summer, The Rising Phoenix Gallery is proud to feature Dorothy Graden’s solo exhibit, Connections of Time and Space, running from July through August 2025. Graden, a celebrated artist with roots in Gary, Indiana, invites viewers to embark on an immersive journey through layers of existence, interconnectivity, and cultural storytelling.

Graden’s art reflects a lifelong fascination with the unseen and the universal. Her layered creations explore the intricate interplay between the physical, magical, and invisible realms of time and space. Inspired by the sand dunes of Lake Michigan, the deserts of the American Southwest, and the depths of the Caribbean Ocean, her work is a testament to the interconnectedness of land, water, and life.

Using a variety of mixed media—ink, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, pastels, and even sand—Graden creates intricate and intuitive works. Each piece is filled with hidden images and patterns that invite viewers to uncover their own connections to the stories within. Her unique style combines elements of woodblock printing, ancient symbolism, and oceanic themes, drawing viewers into vibrant universes filled with spirals, zigzags, and dots.

The exhibit will feature works such as Goddess of the Night, Liminal Passage, Fire Voices, and Flowing Dimensions, each reflecting her dedication to celebrating the wonder of existence and the unseen threads that bind us all. As Graden herself explains, “I believe there are not only four directions, but many—North, South, East, West, Up, Down, and Invisible.”

Graden’s artistic journey is deeply personal. From her childhood in Gary, transforming old boards into art inspired by graffiti, to her years as an educator exploring multicultural creativity, she has remained committed to the idea of connection—between people, cultures, and the natural world. Her travels across the globe, from Asia to Africa, and her dives beneath the waves of the Caribbean, have further enriched her perspective, shaping her art into a true celebration of life’s complexity and beauty.

Visitors to the gallery will not only experience Graden’s stunning artwork but will also be invited to contemplate their own place in the universe. The exhibit promises to be a profound exploration of the stories and connections that define humanity’s shared existence.

Mark your calendars and join us this summer at The Rising Phoenix Gallery for an unforgettable artistic experience. To learn more, visit Dorothy Graden’s website or explore details about the exhibit at Rising Phoenix Gallery.
